In our opinion such a man is fortunately available in
the person of Sir F. H. May, at present Governor of Fiji,
who has worked with distinction in many of the important
Departmets in this Colony, and has acted on several occas-
-lons as Governor to the satisfaction of the Community,-
and we would therefore beg leave to most strongly urge, in
the interests of this Colony, that in default of our being
able to secure a continuance of Sir F. Lugard's services
here, it is most advisable that Sir F. H. May be appointed
to succeed him as Governor.
In this connection we would also remind you that a
new Colonial Secretary will be arriving here shortly,-
new to this Colony, and its needs,- and that consequently
there is all the more necessity that our next Governor
should not be a stranger to this Colony and its special
local problems.
Trusting that you will accord a favourable reply to
this letter,
We have the honour to be, Sir,
Your most obedient servants,
C. P. CHATER.
HO KAI
WEI A, YUK
(Signed)
H.E. POLLOCK
The Right Honourable,
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES.
EDWARD OSBORNE C.H.ROSS
